29 June 2016

This week the runners experienced perfect conditions for their winter run. We had 59 starters and of these an incredible 12 PBs the most notable of these were Michelle Mitchell and Stephanie Lunn  who both improved their times by over a minute each.

Was great to see all the families come along and run together. The Connaughton clan were all back in town and Paige who has been up from Melbourne for uni holidays for the past few weeks missed out on her PB from 2 years ago by 11seconds.

Paul and Maureen Searson (pictured) have been coming along to the Broulee runners for the last couple of months. They have discovered triathlons and have been regularly participating in the enticer events at various locations and have found the running group to be a helpful addition to their training.

51 starters in this evening’s run performed with distinction with 14 personal best times and a number of others close to their mark.

We welcomed Lauren Evans to her first run.  She was the first female home in the Park Run in Batemans Bay last Saturday.

Daniel Beby lowered Dan Lloyd-Jones’s record in the 3.5 kilometre event by 30 seconds in recording a time of 11.51.

Shayne and her mother Sue Hargraves (pictured) both recorded personal best times in the 2 kilometres.

Shayne represented the district in the NSW Catholic Schools Cross Country Carnival at Eastern Creek in Sydney.  She was able to finish in the middle of the field against the best in the State.

Well done to you all see you next Wednesday at 4.30pm.

15 June 2016

The crisp clear conditions allowed for the runners to test themselves as of the 52 starters there were 15 personal best times.

It was family affair with improvements coming in pairs as Paul and Maureen Searson, Nina and Annika Thorne and Carissa and Steve recording personal best times.

James Dickinson and Tayah Hancock stormed home first and second in a strong field in the 2 kilometre distance.  Young promising athletes Stephanie Lunn and Shayne Hargraves also showed their class in this event.

Paige Connaughton on holidays from her studies in Melbourne showed that she is returning to her best form with an excellent run in the 5 kilometres with a few seconds from the best time set in twelve months ago. Paige is training for her first half marathon to be held next month in Melbourne, we look forward to hearing how you go.

Finally we have reached our shortest week of the year so it will be nice to see a little bit more daylight each evening from here on in.

Pictured are all our younger runners with lots of energy before their start.

See you next Wednesday at 4.30pm.

8 June 2016

This evening there were 53 starters in the first official winter event for the Broulee Runners.

Improvement to the course with the opening of the new bridge over Candlargen bridge helped keep the participants mud free.

Nonetheless, the soft ground slowed most down as there were only 3 personal best times.

There were outstanding runs in the 3.5 kilometre distance by Foxx McGeachy and Oliver Dolphin, who will go on to represent their schools in major Cross Country events.

Deb Connaughton, who is a major contributor to the success of the event, recorded her 200 run this evening.  Deb’s first run was 27 February 2008 and she has a personal best time 25.21 in the 5 kilometres.

James Dickinson and Steve Morgan were awarded their 30 run shirts this evening. Pictured is Deb, Steve and James.

See you all next week at 4.30pm.
