10 January 2018

Great weather attracted 82 starters to this evening’s Broulee run/walk.  There were visitors from South Australia, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Griffith.  We welcomed the Gannon family consisting of Bart, Steve, Miyaka, Kai and Angie.  Also, were Henry and Molly Burke.  There were the regular tourists, who come back each year – Kirrily, Lisa and Robert Turner also Gabby and Jo Golds.

In the 2 Kilometres personal best times were recorded by Hugo Hayward, Alba Van Der Meulen, Ziggy Henry, Caroline Ramsay, Jillian Edwards.  In the 3.5 improvers were mother and daughter pair of Lisa and Emma Robbins.  In the 5 kilometres improvers were Dan Lloyd-Jones, Kirrily Turner and Sam Salinger-Morris.

The feature of the evening was Dave Connaughton completing his 400th run with the group.  Dave did his first run on 27 February 2008 and all his runs have been over the 5 kilometres distance.  This is an amazing achievement as he rarely misses a run.  As his participant rate is 82% this will put him in the iron man category and this may never be bettered.

Pictured is Dave, his daughter Paige and friends Jo and Gabby Golds.

See you all next week at 5pm.

Cooler running conditions attracted a record field for this evening’s Broulee Run/walk.  There were visitors from Canberra, Sydney, Townsville and England.  13 personal best time were recorded.  In the 2 kilometres it was the Hayward family consisting of Louis, William, Olivia and Hugo to improve others to impress were Mollie Kennedy and Mitchell Beby.  In the 3.5 kilometres Sandra Lunn showed her 4 children that mother runs best.  In the 5 kilometres Jane Aungles, Louise Cox, Steve Phipps, Julie De Ernstd, Rob Ryan and Sam Selinger Morris showed improvement.

We welcomed back Liza Martini, who is on holidays from Townsville.  Liza helped start the event back in 2007 and she has seen it grow from 7 starters to todays record of 105 people.

Jo Pollock and her son Leo received their 30-run shirt this evening.  This demonstrates the spirt behind the event when a parent can run/carry a child and both enjoy the competition and companionship of their fellow community members.
